A Day In Fukuoka, Japan: Black Woman In Japan

- It’s amazing what you can do when you don’t center fear or other people, in your life. Most of my adult years were spent nursing other people and their lives, instead of my own. fast forward to January 2024, and I taped out! My trip to Japan is one of the many consequences of that decision. So today, I’m sharing just a few of my favorite experiences as I took a day in Fukuoka, Japan.
Things to note when traveling
As a longtime bougie Black woman on budget, I’ve found the most effective ways to have enjoy a rich experience, regardless of your budget, is to be INTENTIONAL with both your plans and must haves. That means, you need to curate and craft your trip around your interests and lifestyle needs in the travel context. For me, my day in Fukuoka was curated around activities, places and experiences that I felt were meaningful to me. Not looking for the nearest Disney land or some other tourist trap!
My Itinerary
First, I sat down the day before, to just visualize all the facets of this trip that I wanted to focus on. Next, I created a theme around my interests and then superimposed that vision over as large of an area that I felt I could cover in a reasonable amount of time. Depending on how many days you have to explore, that area, will change. Next, I create an itinerary of no more than three places or activities I want to enjoy for that particular timeframe. Needless to say, I’m keeping it short and sweet exploring as I take a day in Fukuoka to the max.
My Priorities
Anytime I make travel plans, I remind myself to prioritize my mental health! This Day in Fukuoka, Japan demands no less. I came here to accomplish certain goals and decided to capitalize off of the time I’m spending here. Not knowing when I’ll be back, I’ve decided to make the most of my time here. That starts with doing a mental self check, just to see where my mind is. After all, there’s no point in trying to sight see or do any activities, if you’re so stressed out that you can’t appreciate where you’re at!
